OFSTED Research Review for Science

Colleagues will know that Manchester University’s SEEIRH lead our Science Network and training which is bespoke to the needs of our Science Primary leads and teachers. They are a leading force in of the Association for Science Education (ASE) who work on the national agenda for Science and in research into best practice which in turn, is supported in our schools for those who take advantage of this free research network and training to improve educational outcomes and to collaborate in this strong community of practice.

The response guidance, written by Jane Turner, Dr Lynne Bianchi and Dr Sarah Earle. It is designed for teachers, senior leaders and professionals with an interest in how the review relates to primary science practice and as had considerable positive feedback from head teachers and teachers valuing its clarity of messaging, and from OFSTED and the DFE.

In particular, the guidance:

  • clarifies points and issues raised in the Review
  • considers how these impact on primary science expertise and leadership
  • includes myths and misinterpretation of the issues to be challenged
  • prompts next steps for primary science leaders and teachers.

Secondary science departments should also be interested in the main focus of attention. The report can be downloaded here.

Great Science Share for Schools 2022

Step up your science with the Great Science Share for Schools 2022

The Great Science Share for Schools is an annual campaign that gives 5–14-year-olds a unique opportunity to share their own scientific questions and investigations with new audiences. Together we can raise the profile of science in schools and communities and inspire young people into science and engineering. The GSSfS 2022 theme focuses on Climate Action and links to the issues discussed in the world global COP26 conference in November 2021, giving young people an opportunity to ask questions about actions that make a difference.

Are you registered? Now’s the time to get involved! We’ve just launched brand new Great Guided Enquiries to kick start your Great Science Share for Schools. Whether you’re new to the campaign or not, these resources will support you to inspire your pupils to ask, investigate and share the scientific questions they’re curious about. If you have a focus on Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Cross-curricular links, there’s an Enquiry for you.

Get ready to share! The 2022 campaign culminates on Tuesday 14th June 2022 with events up and down the UK bringing together young people to share their science.

Register for the Great Science Share for Schools 2022 now and start sharing your science any time!
